non-firm Unincorporated:“we are a real company”

NON-FIRM UNINCORPORATED (N-FU) is a Danish company exploring the capabilities and limitations of capitalism, market forces, and commerce.  We established our first branch in 2025 in a large (400 square meter) storefront on a main walking street in Odense C, Denmark at Kongensgade #26.  N-FU practices reverse capitalism, by giving money away freely.  N-FU practices unconventional marketing by having a black square as a logo, and offering free Non-Firm tattoos.  N-FU offers a place of rest, an oasis in the city center, in the midst of a sea of commercial activities.   

At the Non-Firm, a collective of non-ployees collaborate in an non-hierarchical way to accomplish nothing, sell nothing, rest, enjoy themselves, and operate in a non-instrumental way.  Our non-ployees have a vast amount of knowledge, experience, and expertise in subjects including: technological product development, aerospace engineering, agile and organizational management techniques, logistics, programming and computer science, electronic music, ethics, social sciences, and the art.  These talents will not be utilized, however.  Non-ployees are recognized for their basic humanity, and not for their skills or contributions.  Non-ployees experience a high level of trust - they are never surveilled or micro-managed.  There are no KPIs or deliverables at N-FU.  The Non-Firm operates in a fully open and transparent way, and anyone is welcome to enter the storefront, visit, use the available resources, take a nap, or become CEO.   
 
What makes a company? At what point would a company stop being a company? How much can one remove and still have a company? How much can be added? Must a company have employees? Seek profit? Compete with other companies?  Why are companies set up and run the way that they are? Could we imagine a new type of company, that does things differently?  

Why do you work? Is your job meaningful? Is it fun? Is it making the world a better place? 

When should we question the structures which surrounded us?  Capitalism has been called "the water in which we all swim". It is so ubiquitous that it can be easy to forget it exists, and how powerful its influences on all of us are. Non-Firm Unincorporated revitalizes a questioning of capitalist institutions.  It could result in new and better ways in which to work. But ultimately, it is an exercise in non-instrumentalism.  It has no aim.
